Introduction

Before starting with the series of tutorials I first want to show the basics and features of BEYOND 3D’s interface then I would like to show how to create scenes with just basic objects and give an introduction to each new chapter.

When time is valuable or when a high complexity is not needed or desired, you can make your scene using the range of available standard objects. While modeling can be tedious (and frustrating at first) using standard objects can be fun.

If you’ve ever been to a city or live in a city yourself you might know that most buildings are basically just different sized squares with a road in between. This can easily be made in beyond 3D using squares and a plane. Street lights can optionally be made by drawing some splines with a bend at their end.

3D modeling refers to creating brand new 3D objects from scratch. This can be one of the most frustrating
parts to master. Follow this tutorial so you can work your way up on the ladder of 3D modeling.

BEYOND Ultimate currently supports 40 Hardware controllers (FB4 or FB3) per installation. This requires a high-performance pc to run. However, there are a few options, as we do have a number of clients who regularly exceed 40 lasers, and even up to hundreds of lasers. This mainly looks like having multiple PCs running together.

BEYOND software has several output color calculation modes. Internally, BEYOND operates with 24-bit RGB color. Different Laser Projectors may contain different number of lasers. Each laser has one color such as red, yellow, green, blue. A typical projector has one to three colors (R,G,B). High End Projectors may use up to 6 color channels. This raises a question: How to make as many as 6 color channels from 3 color channels in Beyond. For example, a projector has 4 chan…

The Synth is the Image and it should be made up of at least one Image, otherwise it will be invisible. Typically, more than one laser content Image will be inside a Synth image; you can create a Synth Image with only one Image inside it, but by design, the Advanced Image Synthesizer is made to combine multiple laser content images.

The idea of “channels” has a long history, and started with LivePRO and our WinAmp plugin. Our WinAmp plugin generated frequency analysis, and was then fed into LivePRO. or Projection Zone identification, BEYOND uses names. A Name is a text string; each zone has its own name. Zone names are used in two places. The first place is in the Projection Zone List. The second place is within laser content (images, timeline track/events, effects, etc.). In all these places, BEYOND stores the zone name as a text “string”.

There are two main types of Clock visualizations supported by BEYOND. An Analog clock uses four frames for the second hand, minutes hand, hour hand, and the background frame. BEYOND rotates the hour, minute, and seconds frames according to the current system time. The second type is a digital clock. Technically, BEYOND generates a text frame and later outputs it as a text image by means of a font just as BEYOND does with Scrolling Text images within the Frame editor.

Distributed Scanning is a great method to improve the quality of a Laser Graphics display. Laser displays have a widely known problem: – complex Graphics have many points, a long trace path, and as a result, it is hard for a single Projector to display them. As a result, Graphics must be simple, or the refresh rate drops down, and the image starts to flicker. A typical example of such a problem is found with Text. Text Characters have many corners, and we want to…

Licenses for BEYOND are bound to either a piece of control hardware or linked to an account login. For hardware licenses, the hardware needs to be connected to the control computer running BEYOND at time of use. For account-based licenses, you log into your account and

BEYOND 5.0 Registration System FAQ

What is it?

The QuickShow/BEYOND registration system was added in version 5.0. It is a “check in” for the control hardware to ensure that the hardware is genuine. This also allows for pangolin to help customers keep track of their hardware, and hopefully recover lost or stolen hardware. This process is done over the internet or done over email. If your show computer is connected to the internet, this is done automatically, and you will not even notice it happ…

Introduction

Live laser shows are becoming increasing popular, and BEYOND takes live show control to a whole new level with a broad array of tools and functionality.

Live Control - Object

Live Controls are one of the most important objects that define the functionality of the live show control section. A laser show is primarily based on two things – The Cue Player and Live Control area. BEYOND has two types of players (or models if you will).

Introduction

BEYOND can record audio from a line-in or a microphone, and then do realtime audio processing. The raw audio waveform is saved in special buffer that can be used later within different parts of the software. The next step of processing is FFT. Raw audio waveform buffers contain 1024 samples, the FFT gives us 512 frequency bands. For each band, BEYOND has an automatic amplitude detector. The BEYOND software will save the data after FFT processing, and then…

The Effects include the full palette of BEYOND effects plus a few, specific elements for the Shape image - Single axis Oscillator, XY Oscillators, and Modulators. The BEYOND Universe window was created with one main goal in mind - to give YOU (the client) complete control over how this portion of the user interface looks and functions. With the BEYOND Universe window, you have the ability to customize the user interface, the ability to create new effects, and the ability to extend BEYOND’s calculation path, opening a whole new world of functionality.

There may be times when you want to restrict access to certain parts of BEYOND. One case would be in a disco with a “light jockey” operator. He or she may not need to access all of the creation or cue editing features of BEYOND and instead would only need to trigger the already-setup cues and perhaps access a few Live Control features. For that reason, BEYOND provides a facility that allows you to indicate which features you want available in the

Laser Show software operates with Frames. The software sends the Frame to the hardware controller to transform the digital Frame to an analog waveform. The output from the controller is an analog signal. The same situation as in the audio world. An audio waveform stays in digital form in the software, as a WAV, MP3 or similar format. When audio is played by a music player, the digital signal transforms to analog, and is then amplified, and we hear it by means of speakers. In …

BEYOND includes a new and ground breaking way to help you to make laser shows called the Virtual Laser Jockey.

The Virtual Laser Jockey can automatically trigger cues (and Effects as discussed below) to the beat set by the BPM system, or to the beat of externally-detected audio input.

The Virtual MIDI Keyboard can be seen at the bottom of the cue grid.

The Virtual MIDI Keyboard illustrates the mapping between cues and MIDI keys. If you press a cue in the grid, you will be able to see which MIDI key is mapped to that cell. Likewise, if you click on a MIDI key with your mouse, this will trigger the associated cue. And finally, as MIDI messages come into the computer, you will see these keys activate and deactivate. New items copied will appear on top of the Clipboard list and will be used in next Paste operation. However, you can select an item in the list, and this item will be used in next Paste operation. The BEYOND Workspace is a union of two important components of BEYOND -‐ Cues and Effects. The Workspace has multiple Pages, where each Page can have up to 100 Cues. In fact, the Page always has 100 cues, and you decide how many cues you want to see in the Configuration menu, Grid tab. The number of Pages is limited to 250. This is a large number, however we strongly recommend keeping the Workspace as compact as possible. Compact Workspaces load faster and use …
